A MARK IN HISTORY
A MARK IN HISTORY
This year marks Bristol Barcelona's 25th year, a special achievement for a team created by a few guys looking to extend their playing careers after many years of playing locally in Bristol. They don't realize, with their focus on fun and enjoyment, that they are creating something so special.
The costs to run an amateur team continue to increase. 3G pitches, training facilities, referees, and equipment cost thousands each year and keep going up. Meanwhile, the cost of living is having a real impact on affordability for our players. We do everything to keep the costs down, but it’s tough, and we’re seeing more and more people opt out due to costs.
We want to make our 25th year a special one. We have huge interest in the team and culture, with over 80 players and more interested due to our close link with UWE and Lockleaze Sports Centre. We have willing coaches, but to move to the next level, we need to ensure we have the right space and equipment to enable them all to play. More funding means more chances to play, proper kits, footballs, facilities, and young people getting the chance to play football without the pressure of paying for it.
From our humble beginnings in Division 4 of the Downs League, we now have two teams that play in the Bristol & District League.
As has often been said, what makes Barca magic is that we don't all come from one place. We are people who find themselves in Bristol united by a love for football. Players from almost every country you could imagine come together here. to create an amazing feel-good factor around the club.
